Visual Midrash with Mark Lieber
Sunday, December 3rd 9:30am - 10:30am
Joseph and Potiphar's Wife
This session examines the story told in this week's Torah portion about lust, history, and personal character. This story centers on a sexual assault accusation against Joseph made by his employer's wife. We will study the story in the Torah and its interpretations in classical Jewish commentary, and in paintings by Rembrandt, Properzia de' Rossi (one of the few women in Renaissance art), Gentileschi, Murillo, Richard McBee, and Chagall.
This continues the Visual Midrash series (previous session were on the stories of Joseph and his brothers, and the Akedah/Binding of Isaac). No previous attendance required, and no knowledge of Hebrew, Bible, art, law, or Department of Education policy required.
